How do I write a US number in a WhatsApp link?
As 1 plus the 10-digit number with no punctuation: (305) 555-0123 becomes wa.me/13055550123. Type it however you like here and the tool cleans it up; leave out the leading 1 and any plus sign, because the country code is added for you. Toll-free numbers usually cannot be registered in the WhatsApp Business app, so use a regular mobile or landline number.
Do US customers use WhatsApp, and should I use the Business app?
WhatsApp is less universal in the US than in most countries, so put the link where it earns its place: next to a text-message option, on signs aimed at travellers and newcomers, and in your Instagram bio. The link is the same for personal and Business WhatsApp. The free Business app adds a profile, a catalogue and automatic replies, and needs a number of its own, which can be a landline verified by phone call.
What is a wa.me link?
It is WhatsApp's official click-to-chat link. It looks like wa.me/14375550123 and opens a chat with that number in the WhatsApp app, or in WhatsApp Web on a computer.
Does the customer need to save my number first?
No. Tapping the link or scanning the code opens the chat directly. Your business name and profile photo appear once you reply.
Can I use this with WhatsApp Business?
Yes. The link format is the same for WhatsApp Business and regular WhatsApp. If you use WhatsApp Business, you can also set a greeting message that sends automatically when a new customer writes.
How do I add the link to Instagram or my Google Business Profile?
Copy the link, then paste it into the website field of your Instagram bio or as a button link in your Google Business Profile. On your own website, use it as the address of a "Chat on WhatsApp" button.
Does the QR code expire?
No. The code only contains the link, so it keeps working for as long as that number is on WhatsApp. If you change your number, generate and print a new code.
