HST and GST calculators by province
Same calculator, opened with your province or territory selected and its rates explained.
How we calculate it
"Add tax" multiplies the amount by each tax for the province you pick: HST in Ontario and the Atlantic provinces, GST plus PST, RST or QST in BC, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Quebec, and GST only in Alberta and the territories. "Remove tax" divides the total by one plus the combined rate. 2026 rates, rounded to the cent.
Common questions
Is there sales tax in Nunavut?
Only the 5% federal GST. Nunavut has no territorial sales tax, so $100 becomes $105 with tax, and the GST is filed with the CRA like anywhere else in Canada.
What rate applies to goods shipped to Nunavut from the south?
5% GST. The CRA's place-of-supply rules tax goods at the rate of the destination, so an Ontario supplier shipping to Iqaluit charges 5%, not 13% HST.
Do I need to register for GST in Nunavut?
The federal $30,000 small-supplier threshold applies: pass it over four consecutive calendar quarters and you must register with the CRA and charge 5% GST. Below that, registration is optional but lets you recover the GST on your own purchases.
What is the HST rate in Ontario?
Ontario charges 13% HST on most goods and services. That is the 5% federal part plus an 8% provincial part collected together by the Canada Revenue Agency.
How do I calculate HST backwards from a total?
Divide the tax-included total by 1.13 in Ontario (or 1 plus the combined rate for your province) to get the price before tax, then subtract to find the tax. For example $113.00 ÷ 1.13 = $100.00 before tax and $13.00 HST. The "Remove tax" mode above does this for you.
Which provinces charge HST and which charge GST plus PST?
HST provinces: Ontario 13%, New Brunswick 15%, Newfoundland and Labrador 15%, Nova Scotia 14% and Prince Edward Island 15%. GST plus a provincial tax: British Columbia 5% + 7% PST, Manitoba 5% + 7% RST, Saskatchewan 5% + 6% PST and Quebec 5% + 9.975% QST. Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut charge 5% GST only. The federal list is on the CRA website.
Did the Nova Scotia HST rate change?
Yes. Nova Scotia cut its provincial portion from 10% to 9% on April 1, 2025, so the HST there went from 15% to 14%. Invoices dated before that use 15%; this calculator uses the current 14%.
Do I have to charge HST as a small business in Canada?
Generally you must register for GST/HST once your taxable sales pass $30,000 over four consecutive calendar quarters; below that you are a "small supplier" and registration is optional. Once registered you charge the rate for the province where the sale takes place. Confirm the details with the CRA or an accountant.
Is this calculator free, and do you keep my numbers?
Yes, it is free. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent or stored. The only thing that leaves the page is the message you choose to send us on WhatsApp.
